IFTs reflect the popularity of specific trends through their market cap. Given its decentralised nature, any business can analyze tokens like plantbasedprotein.ift.eth or homefitness.ift.eth to predict consumer demand for relevant products. Merchants can perform quick prelim market research based on IFTs.

Businesses can use trend data from IFTs to inform SEO/advertising by leveraging real-time, decentralised insights about societal trends. E.g. overlaps in holders of two or more IFTs like longevity.ift.eth and plantbasedprotein.ift.eth, could inform a merchant in nutrition supplements to consider changing their downstream customer segmenting decisions for increased advertising effectiveness.

Recognize early knowledge discovery & gossip

In the IFT system, anyone can register arbitrary words—some meaningful, some not. This transforms the act of discovering and claiming meaningful entries into a kind of gem-collecting game, a race to register things just as they take meaning, or even before it takes off. IFTs make it possible to mark on-chain that you know early about something tangible—via a token.

E.g.

  • Alice works at a pharmaceutical company. One day, her team develops a new cancer drug called TI28.

  • She calls the factory contract of ift.eth. The factory contract adds subname TI28.ift.eth, start minting IFT token TI28.ift.eth, then sets Alice’s ENS subdomain TI28.alice.eth to resolve to the token’s contract address.

  • Bob later sees an ENS event re: TI28.alice.eth and deduces there’s a tradable IFT, TI28.ift.eth.

  • Bob can buy this IFT and be aligned with Alice and the knowledge she registered.

  • Much later, after TI28 works out. Somebody can decide to recognize the first 1,000 ENS users who “shared” TI28 in this way like Alice - e.g. awarding POAPs or airdrops, marking them as early discoverers of TI28.

  • This opens up a new class of on-chain reputation — built fundamentally on ENS subdomain registration events and IFT actions that can result in retrospective semantic meaning.

  • Frontier: new web3 social graphs recognizing discovery, rather than popularity.
